Tuberculosis could surpass malaria as main killer disease in Uganda

A ministry of health report reveals that cases of tuberculosis are on the rise and there are fears that the disease could soon surpass malaria as the leading disease killing Ugandans.

Malaria has for long been a top killer of many Ugandans, but new revelations from the 20th Annual Joint Review report of the ministry of health during cites smear positive Tuberculosis as a disease that's on the rise, killing many Ugandans and almost surpassing malaria.

The report further states that maternal mortality rates remain unacceptably high in the Uganda.

On the positive side, the report reveals that the ministry has made improvements in health infrastructure, increased the health work force and scaled up of immunization and HIV anti-retroviral therapy.
