Ukraine: Rada approves five-year Tuberculosis Control Program
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved a National Tuberculosis Control Program for 2012-2016.
A total of 272 MPs of the 346 registered for voting on Tuesday supported the law "On approval of the Program for National Tuberculosis Control for 2012-2016".
According to an explanatory note, the implementation of the program will help restrict the spread of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, as well as reduce the level of TB infection and deaths caused by this infection.
This program will also improve the system of rendering anti-tuberculosis aid to the population, of training and retraining of medical employees in preventing and diagnosing TB, as well as treating ill people.
The given program will ensure the timely diagnosis of tuberculosis and will help to form a system of the laboratory checks over the quality of anti-tuberculosis medicine, and reduced the number of sufferers that are treated repeatedly or who interrupt their treatment course.
The program will be financed by funds foreseen in the state budget for the main managers of budget means, who are responsible for implementation of the program, and with the funds of local budgets, grants from the Global Fund to fight AIDS and Tuberculosis, and other sources. The total volume of financing of the program for 2012-2016 is UAH 1.830 billion: UAH 1.236 billion in state funds; UAH 592.3 million from the Global Fund; and UAH 2 million from another sources.
