HIV/TB Research meeting in conjunction with the 20th conference on retroviruses and opportunistic infections (CROI 2013)

WHO, on behalf of the Global TB/HIV Working Group of the Stop TB Partnership and in collaboration with the Consortium to Respond Effectively to the AIDS/TB Epidemic (CREATE) is organizing the 7th CROI affiliated HIV/TB research meeting which will be held on Sunday 3 March 2013 between 11:30 and 13:30 at the Omni Hotel, CNN Center, in Atlanta, Georgia USA. The aim of the meeting is to promote high level scientific interchange of ideas and research priorities about specific issues related TB prevention as well as drug interactions between new TB drugs and ART.

A third of all people living with HIV worldwide are latently infected with Mycobacteria tuberculosis, making them 21-34 times more likely to develop active TB disease than people who are HIV negative. Despite being preventable and curable, TB is still a leading killer of people living with HIV, with a quarter of all HIV deaths found to be TB-related. This meeting will share data from on-going studies, discuss controversial issues and identify critical research questions. Areas of focus will be on the impact of Isoniazid Preventive Therapy among infants and children living with HIV, rifapentine for TB prevention among people living with HIV, as well as drug interactions of new ART and TB drugs. A provisional agenda can be found at the following link.

The meeting is intended for HIV researchers, implementers and public health policy makers. A light lunch will be served during the meeting. Attendance of the meeting will be by confirmed registration only and on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in participating please send an e-mail expressing your interest to [email protected] at your earliest convenience but no later than close of business on February 22, 2013.
