National Press Foundation: Journalist to Journalist lung health media training 2013
The Journalist to Journalist Project of the National Press Foundation is working with the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease to offer all-expenses-paid fellowships for health journalists to cover the 44th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Paris, France. Fellowship winners will attend three days of expert training from Tuesday to Thursday, 29-31 October, then cover the conference through Sunday, 3 November 2013.
The three-day J2J programme is designed for working journalists who want to increase their knowledge and skill at developing stories on lung health and related issues, including tuberculosis; TB/HIV; asthma, COPD, diabetes, tobacco control and the impact of air pollution. Journalists will share their own work and hear presentations from world-class experts on these diseases, the extent and impact of the problems they present (including social, political and economic impacts) and new research, solutions and innovations in the pipeline. The sessions will provide presentations and discussions with experts, as well as practical training in turning scientific information into effective print and broadcast stories.
Applications are sought from journalists working in any medium. Special though not exclusive attention will be given to applications from journalists in low- and middle-income countries, along with China, India, Russia and South Africa. Up to 20 fellowships will be awarded. Each will cover conference registration, round-trip air and train travel, hotel accommodation and per diem.
All applicants must have been working as a journalist covering lung health or general health for at least three years. All J2J sessions will be in English, so proficient spoken and written English are essential.
The deadline for applications is 5:00 PM EST, July 22, 2013. Only online applications are accepted. Apply online at: nationalpress.org/programs-and-resources/program/lung-health-issues-paris-france-2013/.
