First National TB Patient Symposium in Pakistan

A historic event - the First National TB Patient Symposium in Pakistan - will be held on October 23, 2014 at Hotel Margala, Islamabad.

The symposium is conceptualized, designed and conducted to meet TB patient’s needs and acknowledging their advocacy efforts and contributions. The symposium will be participative and interactive. Participants will get opportunity to reflect on TB disease management by sharing personal examples, life histories and success stories during the symposium. Participants driven discussions, audio/visual message and introduction to latest updates in TB world will be the key activities. Group work/ discussions will ensure that everyone gets fair chance to air ideas and opinions. The symposium will involve participants at emotional, cognitive and personal level through innovative methods. This will lead to develop concrete commitments and action plans in consultation with key stakeholders.

A special audio/visual message by Dr. Lucica of Stop TB Partnership will be aired to strengthen the efforts and acknowledge the efforts of TB patients and their advocates in fight against TB.
 
National Coalition of TB Activists-Pakistan will be launched at the end to provide a platform to TB and their advocates for active participation in TB control efforts.
 
A National TB Patient Ambassador will also be nominated to take lead in patient lead TB advocacy and play a hub link role between TB communities and service providers. The Ambassador will also take lead on the follow up and further actions.
 
A declaration of commitment will also be launched for policy advocacy at the end of the symposium.
