Take action: United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB – Heads of State must lead the TB fight

Dear Partners, Colleagues and Friends,

As we know, TB is the world’s leading infectious killer and was responsible for 1.8 million deaths in 2015. It’s time to end this tragedy. It’s time for Heads of State to step up and stop the neglect. And it’s time for a political response that matches the scale of the challenge.

This is why the Stop TB Partnership Board, led by our Chair Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, has called for a United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB to be held in the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2017.

This is the best opportunity to ensure TB is at the highest level of the global political agenda and accelerate the national TB response. No other meeting can bring Heads of State and the highest levels of government to the table. A High-Level Meeting on TB would result in a United Nations Political Declaration agreed by Heads of State with concrete commitment and actions to end TB.

This is our opportunity and only together can we make it a reality. Please help us secure agreement for a High-Level Meeting on TB by taking one of the following actions:

  1. Download a factsheet (click here) on the High-Level Meeting for TB and share it with governmental officials, TB allies, and others in your network to request their support.
  2. Contact your Minister of Health and Minister of Foreign Affairs asking their support for the call for the UN High-Level Meeting on TB.
  3. Spread the message on Facebook and Twitter (click here for a suggested tweet) by telling the world you support a UN High-Level Meeting on TB using the hashtag #UNITE4TB

If we join together, I’m confident we will succeed in placing tuberculosis at the top of the national and global agendas. Every single voice and action counts!

With best regards,

Dr Lucica Ditiu
