Appeal from a TB survivor from Hungary
Marta is a lung TB survivor from Hungary undergone TB treatment in 1959. She would like to share her experience and get in touch with other TB survivors around her age. Please read Marta’s appeal below and consider getting back to her.
“My name is Marta and I am a lung TB survivor from Hungary. I entered a TB sanatorium in 1959, when I was twelve years old. My treatment was high dosed combined isoniazid (INH) and para-aminosalicylic acid (PAS) medication for about 9 months, and after my 1960 discharging from the sanatorium, I was kept on INH for a couple more years. My family made me to feel that I had to hide my experience with TB because of the stigma at the time, and have felt the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of my TB treatment for years after, meanwhile knowing that it was a life-saving treatment.
I would like to share my experiences now and I am looking to be in touch with TB survivors around my age, who may have undergone treatment around the same time as me (1955-1960), or who have received the same drug combination.
Please contact me at [email protected] if you would like to be in touch to share your experience and talk about what we went through, and its likely long lasting effects.”
