The United Nations is being urged to declare a full-scale humanitarian emergency in Venezuela in the light of the “utter collapse” of its health system and widespread food shortages.

TB is a particular problem in Papua New Guinea. The national capital district has the highest incidence of multidrug-resistant TB in the world, with 1,300 cases per 100,000 of the population. 

The UK government has pledged £7.5million for the development of three new treatments for tuberculosis, the world's biggest infectious disease killer.
