Roche joins forces with CDC to strengthen laboratory systems in the fight against the HIV and TB epidemics

Roche‌ ‌announced the expansion of its collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to strengthen laboratory capabilities in countries greatly affected by the HIV and TB epidemics. Through the implementation of a public-private partnership, named “Lab Networks for Health,” Roche and the CDC will seek to improve HIV and TB prevention, detection and treatment outcomes in select countries of Africa, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Western Hemisphere (e.g., Latin America, Central America and Caribbean regions).

How Myanmar achieved the 2020 milestone of reducing TB disease burden

Myanmar is the only country in the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Region to achieve the 2020 deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals target of 20% reduction of TB incidence from the 2015 baseline. Collaboration of the public and private sectors has played an important role in the efforts to control TB. An increase in government spending on TB, newer diagnostic tools, use of mobile clinics, and making treatment affordable are some of the key elements of Myanmar’s approach to combat TB.

General Assembly adopts a resolution deciding format, focus of the upcoming High-Level Meeting on TB in September

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a text, titled “Scope, modalities, format and organization of the high-level meeting on the fight against tuberculosis”, by which it decided that the one-day high-level meeting convened by its President shall be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 22 September 2023 during the general debate of the Assembly’s seventy-eighth session and shall consist of an opening segment, a plenary segment for general discussion, two multi-stakeholder panels and a brief closing segment.

Call for expression of interest: Community advisory boards to support community engagement in research under the SMART4TB project

The SMART4TB Consortium is calling for expressions of interest from multi-national community advisory boards or similarly organized civil society organizations within three geographic focus areas (Eastern Europe and Central Asia; Africa; and South and Southeast Asia) to support community engagement in research in a new five-year research project funded by USAID: Supporting, Mobilizing, and Accelerating Research for Tuberculosis Elimination (SMART4TB).
