SAN FRANCISCO, CA—The completion rate of a 12-dose, 3-month isoniazid/rifapentine (3HP) regimen in this study (83.7%) is comparable to its completion rate in Study 26 (82.1%), and is significantly higher than the average 55.0% completion rate for the 9-month isoniazid regimen that was reported in Arkansas for the past 5 years, according to results presented at IDWeek 2013.

With TB remaining a leading cause of death in adults, especially among the productive age group, Nigeria ranks 10th among the 22 High Burden Countries (HBCs), contributing 80 percent of the estimated 8.7 million new TB cases recorded in 2012 globally.

According to World Health Organization estimates, there were 8.7 million new cases in 2011 and 1.4 million deaths. Most new cases occur in developing countries that lack the facilities and trained personnel required for early detection of TB.
