A trial in which adults from four continents took standard-dose efavirenz with or without the anti-TB drug rifampin (rifampicin) found a trend toward higher efavirenz minimum concentrations (Cmin) with than without rifampin. The result does not support the US labeling recommendation to raise the dose of efavirenz from 600 to 800 mg daily in people taking rifampin and weighing 50 kg or more.

NEW DELHI: The prevention and management of tuberculosis - one of the deadliest communicable diseases - has been hit badly in the city due to strike by health workers. Over 600 employees working in the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program have been off-duty for over three weeks raising apprehensions about the spread of the disease. They are demanding regularization in service and hike in remuneration.

A workshop entitled “Preparedness for introduction of the new anti-TB drugs in the treatment regimens for multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB) in Belarus” was held on 28th August 2013 at the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Pulmonology and Tuberculosis. At the workshop, which was organized by WHO with the support of USAID, participants had the opportunity to discuss the imminent emergence of new anti-TB drugs for treatment of multi drug resistant forms of tuberculosis.
