An estimated 350 million people have diabetes worldwide, including those in poorer countries where other diseases, particularly tuberculosis (TB), are prevalent. To combat both diseases, the World Health Organization (WHO) is now asking diabetes and infectious disease experts to collaborate on activities for the prevention and care of both diseases.

July 28, 2015--This week RESULTS, along with twelve other leading US and international organizations, sent a letter to President Obama to thank him for initiating the development of a U.S. Government National Action Plan for Combating Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Existential threat of drug-resistant TB (post)
In September, the Obama administration will unveil The National Action Plan to Combat Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (TB). I commend the administration for developing an action plan to address this preventable, air-borne disease. As a practicing physician who has been treating people with drug resistant TB for decades, I am cautiously optimistic that future patients will receive the safe and effective treatment regimens they need both for their own survival as well as to prevent spreading the disease in their families and communities.

04 September 2015 - Buenos Aires, Argentina - The fourth and final regional consultation on the Global Plan to Stop TB 2016-2020 ended this week as over 40 participants came together representing the diverse partners and stakeholders from the Latin America and Caribbean region.
Tuberculosis action plan for WHO European Region 2016–2020 (post)
Implementing the consolidated action plan to prevent and combat multidrug- and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (M/XDR TB) in the WHO European Region since 2011, Member States have made several major achievements in prevention, control and care. More than 1 million TB patients have been cured, including 53 000 with MDR-TB. Key challenges remain, especially due to ongoing primary transmission, increasing resistance of strains and deadly TB and HIV co-infections. The expected effects of the new action plan for 2016–2020 include curing 1.4 million TB patients, preventing 1.7 million new cases and saving US$ 48 billion.
