Global Fund and ICRC join forces to enhance response to HIV, TB and malaria in conflict-affected areas (post)
Geneva, 16 July 2018 – The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) met Monday to announce a collaboration agreement focused on providing better care to individuals and communities burdened by these diseases in hard-to-reach conflict-affected areas and detention centres.

24 July 2018: Members of the United Nations concluded negotiations on the draft of the Political Declaration on the Fight Against Tuberculosis on 20 July. After weeks of heated negotiations over the inclusion of references to TRIPS flexibilities in the operative paragraphs, with the Group of 77 pushing for inclusion and the United States against it, the final text of the political declaration reflects the deadlock of these positions. Due to the inability of member states to reach agreement, the final text does not include substantive reference to TRIPS flexibilities.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands (July 23, 2018) — In preparation for the first ever United Nation’s High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on tuberculosis (TB), to be held September 26, in New York, advocates are calling on the HIV/AIDS community to use the 22nd International AIDS Conference to draw attention to the deadly link between TB and HIV. The conference, which runs from July 23 to 27, is the last major gathering of both the TB and HIV advocacy communities before the highly anticipated UNHLM on TB. Scores of delegates from across the world are here for the conference.
