Civil society, countries and partners commit to step up action to end TB in the Western Pacific Region (post)

25 January 2018 | Seoul, Republic of Korea – An outcome statement to step up action to end TB was released today outlining pledges of support from civil society, countries and partners. The statement highlights key opportunities, actions and next steps to empower and strengthen community and civil society engagement to end TB, and is the culmination of a landmark consultation organized by the WHO Regional Office of the Western Pacific and the Korean Institute of Tuberculosis (KIT) on 11-13 December. The workshop brought together more than 40 participants from countries and partners, including the regional members of the revamped WHO Civil Society Task Force to strengthen global and regional mechanisms for civil society engagement.

EU and Russia collaborate in new project on infectious diseases (post)

A new EU project on the theme of HIV, hepatitis C and tuberculosis is a door opener for collaboration between researchers from EU countries and Russia. One of the project’s initiators is Anders Sönnerborg, Professor of Clinical Virology and Infectious Diseases at KI’s Departments of Laboratory Medicine, and Medicine Huddinge. The project Common Actions Against HIV/TBC/HCV Across the Regions of Europe (CARE) will mainly focus on the spread of the infections and resistance to treatment.

The Stop TB Partnership and the Confluence for Health Action and Transformation Foundation (India Health Fund) signed a Memorandum of Understanding. It will focus on joint advocacy and knowledge sharing to increase access to healthcare for people affected by TB in India and other high burden countries.

Treatment Action Group (TAG), AVAC, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Health GAP, IMPAACT4TB, and RESULTS hosted a webinar on 23 January 2019 on how to strategize and engage in PEPFAR Country Operational Plans (COPs) planning to address and strengthen the global response to TB through PEPFAR, and introduced tools to galvanize advocacy efforts.
