Re: Programmatic and research targets for the Global Plan to Stop TB, 2016–2020

Beyond 2015, global action should be based on strategies that exploit technical and operational innovations to improve TB control and promote universal health coverage and social protection mechanisms as a means to ensure access to quality care while avoiding catastrophic costs incurred by patients.

To achieve maximum TB care and control, countries must strengthen their public health infrastructure and move towards universal access to prevention, diagnostic and treatment services for all forms of TB with accelerated research in TB control.

How is the ‘End TB Strategy’ relevant in the Indian context, and how can India be a world leader in implementing the End TB Strategy?

MSF continues to express concern over the use of limited-scope donation programmes as a primary means of providing access to new TB drugs in countries affected by drug-resistant TB, as they are not a long-term solution to facilitating scale-up of treatment.

This survey is the first to capture governments’ own assessments of their response to resistance to antimicrobial medicines used to treat conditions such as bloodstream infections, pneumonia, tuberculosis, malaria and HIV.

India undertook the largest ever TB programme review over the last two weeks. Following this, the Ministry of Health of India launched on 23 April, a bold Call to Action for a TB Free India.
