Former President of the United States Bill Clinton delivered a keynote address on the final day of the 22^nd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018) which took place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He called for heads of state to attend the UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on TB taking place in September, insisting on continued and increased financial commitment to both TB and HIV/AIDS.

South Africa recently announced it would be providing all oral-regimens to a majority of persons with rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB)[1] by replacing injectable medicines with bedaquiline. This decision was based on a retrospective cohort analysis from the country showing improved treatment success and reduction of mortality when bedaquiline was given to persons with drug resistant-TB (DR-TB) under programmatic conditions (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/onlineFirst). 

The Union’s TB and Mental Health Working Group have released a video, Learning from the field: the mental health management of MDR-TB in Peru, to promote the wide-scale provision of mental health screening and services for patients receiving treatment for tuberculosis (TB) worldwide.

Public Health Action is the free access, online journal of The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. The journal focuses on tuberculosis, lung health, non-communicable diseases and related public health issues.

The Union and partner organisations brought 21 United Nations (UN) country missions together with tuberculosis (TB) experts and TB organisation representatives at a briefing in Geneva on 19 June, in preparation for the UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on TB later this year. The event, titled ‘The Vital Role of TB Research and TB Elimination’, highlighted the urgent need for increased TB research to develop and disseminate effective interventions and create more efficient TB programmes.
