12 December 2017 - Today on Universal Health Coverage Day, The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) have launched updated guidance for health care workers who are involved in detecting and caring for patients with tuberculosis (TB).

On World Human Rights Day, The Union restates the need for greater political action in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for health, including ending the deadly epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) by 2030 and to ensure that all people can fulfil their human right to health.

World Antibiotic Awareness Week will take place next week from 13-19 November, shining a spotlight on the growing crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The first descriptions of infectious diseases becoming resistant to the antimicrobial treatments available were in 1948 and were for drugs used to treat tuberculosis (TB).
