Today, 5 September, The Union's President, Dr Jeremiah Chakaya Muhwa has sent the following letter to all Union members calling for united action to support the establishment of ‘World Lung Day’:

As the 70th World Health Assembly (WHA) concluded, The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) looks to the new leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO) to guide the next era of health solutions around the world, and urges all those who attended to make TB a priority in the year leading up to the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on TB in 2018.

At the 70^th World Health Assembly, The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung disease (The Union) calls on Member States to include tuberculosis (TB) as part of the response to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) - particularly a need to combat the inadequacies of current vaccines, diagnostics and treatment for TB.

On 28 April 2017, Zimbabwe’s Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko and the Minister of Health and Child Care Dr David Parirenyatwa signed the Barcelona Declaration on tuberculosis (TB) and the localised Bulawayo Declaration on HIV-TB to demonstrate the government’s commitment to ending the two diseases by 2030.
