Towards ending TB in Eastern Europe and Central Asia: use the best modelling available and work with all stakeholders for a patient-centered approach

30 June 2017 - Chisinau, Moldova - Two meetings held this week focused on addressing ending TB in high TB and DR-TB incident countries in the EECA region. A Regional Workshop on Application of Models in Assessing Cost and Impact of TB Programs in the EURO region held on 28-30 June was attended by 11 National TB Programme managers and their teams from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, world’s leading TB modelers, donors and partners. The workshop looked at innovative modelling and costing tools to achieve the targets of the End TB Strategy and Stop TB Partnership’s Global Plan to End TB 2016-2020. The tools will enable the 11 countries to develop robust National Strategic Plans addressing their burden, plan for future funding requests and advocacy at for increased national budgets. The meeting was organized by the Stop TB Partnership in collaboration with the Global Fund, WHO EURO and PAS (Center for Health Policies & Studies), Moldova.

Stop TB Partnership’s TB REACH Wave 5 grantees in full speed to evaluate progress and impact of their projects

6 June 2017 - The Stop TB Partnership’s TB REACH initiative recently convened a capacity-building workshop designed to strengthen grantees’ ability to measure the impact of their projects following the latest round of funding (Wave 5). More than 110 people from over 20 countries representing 38 projects participated in the meeting which was organized last month in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ukraine calls for all children affected with TB to receive the appropriate diagnosis, treatment, care and support

1st June, 2017, Ukraine - Today we celebrate International Children’s Day and it’s time to think of the one million children who are suffering with or are affected by TB and TB/HIV. Many children who live with parents, guardians and others who have confirmed TB do not receive preventive therapy. Many more thousands are sick with TB and do not have access to proper diagnosis or treatment, and 200,000 children's lives are taken annually by TB – an unacceptable tragedy for a curable disease.

Stop TB Partnership’s Global Drug Facility holds Annual Suppliers Meeting

04 May 2017 - Lao PDR - More than 25 partner organizations gathered in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR for the 2017 Annual Global Drug Facility (GDF) Suppliers Meeting on 25 - 27 April. Participants included representatives from generic and innovator manufacturers of anti-tuberculosis (TB) medicines, freight forwarding and logistics companies, quality control agencies, IDA Foundation, Vietnam and Lao PDR National TB Programs (NTPs), WHO, the Global Fund, USAID, the US Pharmacopeia’s Promoting the Quality of Medicines program, and GDF staff.

Addressing the needs of key, vulnerable and the most underserved populations - essential to End TB

3-5 April, 2017 - Bangkok, Thailand –The Stop TB Partnership, the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and APCASO, together with partners, collaborated to develop the Framework for TB Key and Vulnerable Populations to address the lack of data and programs for key and vulnerable populations in TB. Participants discussed specific issues faced by TB key and vulnerable populations, gaps in data and the lack of understanding of the epidemic in these populations.

A people-centered approach constructed by TB Champions

13 April 2017, New Delhi, India – REACH in response to demand from communities and with the support of Stop TB Partnership and USAID hosted a workshop for TB Champions from the Southeast Asia region to extend peoples’ knowledge on TB and deepen their communication and advocacy skills so that they can meaningfully engage in the TB response to move towards a people-centered approach.
