The TB Europe Coalition (TBEC) is looking for an experienced full-time manager to join its international team. TBEC Manager will implement a new Community, Rights and Gender (CRG) grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to support the capacity building of tuberculosis affected communities and civil society to be meaningfully engaged in the tuberculosis response in the WHO Europe region.

The TB Europe Coalition will host a bilingual webinar on 28 June 2018 on the Global Fund's Sustainability, Transition, and Co-Financing (STC) Policy and its impact on the availability of quality, affordable essential TB drugs, diagnostics, and other commodities in the region.

Last December, Ministry of Social Affairs and National Institute for Health Development from Estonia, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, UNAIDS and the Global Fund organised a two day meeting on challenges and opportunities in national HIV and TB programmes management.

On 10 May 2018, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted Resolution on Drug-resistant tuberculosis in Europe. The resolution will go to all 47 Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Council of Europe countries this summer (before the UN High-Level Meeting on TB).

TB advocates urge the Commissioner to make a public statement on World TB Day, encouraging EU member states to attend the UN High-Level Meeting on TB, at the highest level.

Public hearings were held on the 30th of January 2018 in Azerbaijan Parliament titled “Global calls and commitments – TB fight in Azerbaijan Republic”. The event was attended by Members of Parliament (MPs) governmental, national and international organizations, TB Azerbaijan Coalition members (TBAZC) and mass media. The following topics were covered: social support to TB patients, added values of CSOs in TB treatment and care, improving quality of TB treatment and care, need for government and civil society efforts in addressing the increasing level of drug resistant TB in the country, fight with TB stigma, ensuring sustainability of TB services after the Global Fund withdrawal, need for increasing TB awareness among general population and need for updating the “Azerbaijan TB Law”.

For many years progress against TB has been hampered by a chronic lack of political will and attention to tackle the world’s deadliest infectious killer. While this has been the case in the past, the upcoming two years provides a unique opportunity to turn the tide.
