The World Health Organization (WHO) is initiating a public comment process for partners and stakeholders to provide inputs on the updated high-priority target product profiles for next-generation drug-susceptibility testing at peripheral centers.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Global TB Program released a newsletter highlighting the overall progress in the global TB response in 2020, emphasizing that urgent and more ambitious investments and actions are required to put the world on track to reach TB targets, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the world comes together to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to ensure that essential health services and operations are continued to protect the lives of people with TB and other diseases or health conditions. Health services, including national programmes to combat TB, need to be actively engaged in ensuring an effective and rapid response to COVID-19 while ensuring that TB services are maintained.  

The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking applicants to serve on the WHO Civil Society Task Force on TB with a deadline of 30 December 2020. Two civil society representatives will be selected; they are expected to serve until end December 2022. The aim of the Task Force is to intensify the voice of civil society in ending TB at all levels.

The World Health Organization (WHO) will host a webinar on 18 December 2020 on the implementation of the Multisectoral accountability framework to accelerate progress to end TB by 2030 (MAF-TB).

Noncommunicable diseases now make up 7 of the world’s top 10 causes of death, according to WHO’s 2019 Global Health Estimates, published today. This is an increase from 4 of the 10 leading causes in 2000. The new data cover the period from 2000 to 2019 inclusive.

7 December 2020 | GENEVA: In a Rapid Communication issued today, the World Health Organization (WHO) is announcing a number of updates to its forthcoming guidance on the systematic screening of tuberculosis (TB) disease. This will help national TB programmes, public and private healthcare providers, funders and other stakeholders to prepare for the changes that will be introduced when the new guidelines are released in early 2021.

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, 1 December, the World Health Organization Global TB Program delivered a special message highlighting the need to expand and strengthen integration of services within the primary healthcare platform, optimizing differentiated service delivery, community engagement and the use of digital technologies to reach those most at risk of TB and HIV with screening, prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Over 300 representatives from countries, partners and civil society came together virtually at the Global Working Group Meeting on Public-Private Mix (PPM) on TB prevention and care on 23 and 25 November 2020. The Meeting was convened by the World Health Organization and the Stop TB Partnership with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Fund.
