The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has approved emergency funding to support the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis among Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan.

GENEVA – The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria today announced new results that show acceleration in efforts to end the AIDS epidemic. In the past year, an additional 1.3 million people began treatment for HIV in programs supported by the Global Fund, a 20 percent increase, bringing the total to 7.3 million people.

The Technical Review Panel, which analyses the technical merit of all funding applications to the Global Fund, reviewed 23 concept notes in July. It was the second window of concept notes to come up for review this year under the new funding model, after 10 applications were assessed in June.

The Global Fund, in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, has embarked on the development of a Global Fund Investment Guidance for EECA for the 2014-2016 allocation period. The aim of this guidance is to recommend strategic priorities for contributing to sustainable impact on HIV/AIDS and TB in the region and thereby help reverse the tide of the epidemics.
